HI, I’M DANAË

I’m passionate about design.

A Caribbean girl born and raised in a family of graphic designers, fine artists and award-winning carnival costume designers in Trinidad & Tobago, now living in San Diego. 

 Faced with a career choice of pursuing art or business, I initially pursued the corporate path in PR, Marketing and Product Development. But as fate would have it, who would have thought a short course in design would result in a major shift back to my first love. 

Leaving a cushy job and a steady paycheck in March 2008 to pursue a completely different career in professional organizing and interior design was no small risk but this was a critical stepping-stone to greater and more rewarding things. After building a lucrative firm over a decade and getting a formal education in interior design, I took another leap of faith and followed my heart to marry the other great love of my life and begin a new chapter.

In late 2021 Casa Dë Z Interiors was launched. With my rich and diverse background I endeavor to create spaces with originality, character, and personal connection. Always tailored to each client and offering a modern sensibility on eclecticism whilst preserving functionality and bringing nature-inspired balance with pops of color and all heart!

Q&A

Get to know Danaë

  • The tale of 2 dots, haha. Yup I’m particular about them. I suppose it makes me feel unique as my name is taken from Greek Mythology. The symbol is called a diaeresis, and is a mark placed over a vowel to indicate that the vowel is pronounced in a separate syllable—as in 'naïve' or 'Brontë'.

  • Casa Dë Z gives homage to my new family name Zamora, my side kick pooch Ziggy and is also a play on my initials DEZ.  It’s the house of everything Z and I bring my zest for life and beauty into people spaces.

  • Danae Bangae because I was always a clutz and banging my head into everything. Still to this day.. haha

  • ‘For I know the plans I have for you Says the Lord, Plans to prosper you you, bring you hope and a future! Jeremiah 29:11

  • Adapting to a new country, learning to drive on the other side of the road, making new friends, re-tooling my skills and restarting my business.

  • To eat calories and not gain any weight!! I’m such a potato chips, fries and desert person.

  • Ummm leaving family and everything I knew, moving life and country to be with my love.  Hands down!

  • Coming from a melting pot of cultures in the Caribbean I have an appreciation for many a cuisine, but a good creole dish always hits the spot and transports me back home. Typical Sunday Lunch – Macaroni pie, stewed chicken, cole slaw and callaloo (google it).
